Experience Lasting Restorations in One Chairside Visit

If you or a loved one are experiencing tooth pain due to a cracked or damaged tooth, state-of-the-art CAD/CAM technology has made it possible to get a permanent crown at Restoration Dental in one day. Dr. Aaron Cohenour has many years of cosmetic dentistry experience, including training in CEREC® technology, which stands for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics.

Dental crowns, sometimes called tooth caps, restore function to existing teeth that are chipped, broken, fractured, badly decayed, or weakened because of root canal therapy. Crowns are also used to replace the missing tooth after getting dental implants. Dental bridges consist of two crowns placed over anchoring teeth on each side that support a false (pontic) tooth that fills the gap left by the missing tooth.

CEREC provides a streamlined, on-site method for creating dental crowns and dental bridges in Edmond, OK without the need to wait for a permanent tooth crown or bridge to come back from the dental lab. CEREC is just one example of how our practice invests in the latest technology to provide the best patient experience!

At SmileArts Dental Studio our dentist and dental team are skilled in these restorative treatments and have the artistic eye to provide aesthetically attractive outcomes, as well as returning function to your tooth.

Traditional Crowns and Bridges

During the dental crown process, your tooth is filed down and reshaped into a smaller size. Any tooth decay is removed and the structure is restored to support the crown. If you have a missing tooth, a dental bridge is created with two or more dental crowns. Although a dental bridge is an alternative to a dental implant, it doesn’t prevent ongoing bone loss under the false tooth. Traditional crowns require a minimum of two appointments.

During treatment, impressions are taken of the damaged tooth with a messy, unpleasant-tasting dental putty that takes five minutes to set. A temporary composite crown is created that you wear until the final crown is ready. It usually takes 10–14 days for the dental lab to create and send back the crown. Some dentists use temporary cement that allows patients to test out the crown before it’s permanently placed during a third visit.

What to Expect When You Get CEREC Crowns

The first step is for Dr. Aaron to perform a thorough exam of the affected tooth and surrounding area. A 3D image of your tooth is used to design a set of ‘blueprints’ for the computer-guided milling of a CEREC crown in Edmond, OK from natural-looking, durable ceramic. CEREC software enables customizing the restoration based on the fine details captured in the digital impression taken of your teeth.

CEREC restorations are designed to blend in seamlessly with surrounding teeth in color and shape. Once the final restoration has been milled and polished, Dr. Aaron finalizes placement, ensures your crown looks and feels flawless, and then cements it into place.
